Pockets of Time (Video)
Nov 23, 2009During a recent field study that spanned China, Indonesia and Malaysia team member and long time collaborator - Zeenath Hasan shot and edited a few short video clips of our time in the field, the first couple published today with about a dozen more to follow.
Whilst the focus of the China study was in Xi'an - Zeenath and another team headed out to a small village close to Dali to set up a number of rural interviews, a journey that had them overnighting in the nearest town in what turned out to be a love hotel / brothel - a common enough occurance in a number of countries. Even when a study is focussed on urban dwellers understanding the basics of rural life can provide the team with a better perspective on issues such as migration, family ties or remittances. The rest of the research team joined the following morning and in the ambience of the farmhouse compound the interview commenced.
The video clip is one of those short post-interview moments, the hostess seated at the head of the table has cooked, we're revelling in good farm cooked food and not a little exhaustion.
