Epic Adventures

Shanghai, 2006

Those of you who conduct field research or perhaps want to get into the game might be interested in EPIC - the Ethnographic Praxis in Industry Conference which is happening in Portland in September. Why mention it now? Well the deadline for full papers May 1st, workshops May 15th and posters is July 15th.

Shanghai, 2006

Enough about work - it's friday night and Shanghai awaits.

I attended last year and enjoyed the networking a great deal but did not find the rest of the experience worthwhile. I've written about this (and some other conferences, including DUX where I briefly met you!) at

Steve,

I remembering reading your comprehensive review after last year's EPIC.

Something that draws me to this conference (as opposed to say Ubicomp that is on at a similar time) is that I'm likely to meet and hear and discuss with a mostly new bunch of people. Do I expect to learn from the papers? Not especially. But neither did I from DUX. I'm also intrigued to what people will present in the name of ethnography, since people often describe my research as ethnographic.

Anyway, for me attendance is all moot until the paper is rejected/accepted.

You sound like a frequent conference goer, what would you recommend?
