To Miss You, Is To Love You

Aibo is gone, but not forgotten
But also not missed
What does that say?

That it's a perfect pop cultural item/icon.

I say that with appropriate respect, not disdain. Many years ago, my worldview was subtly altered by reading an interview with Bjork, in which she defended the value of "pop" music. This carried extra weight for me because she spent a dozen or so years studying classical music.

Her argument, in brief, was that pop music isn't *supposed* to have value 10 years, or two years, or even 6 months from now. For her, the purpose of pop music was to form a strong emotional bond with the present day, and to discard it and move on when the day was over. "Quality" music can't represent the day, and pop music can't do its job if you're still listening to favorites from the 80's.

So I love strong gone-but-not-missed items. Aibo may be gone but its (humanoid?) replacement will be here soon enough.

Awesome photo. Where did you take that from? Is it a public space? I love watching that intersection.

Based on my own pics, I'm gonna say the bay window of the 24th floor elevator landing in the hotel across the street. Not fully public, but act like a guest and you'll have no problem.

Spot on.

Imagine the volume of people taking photos from the same location(s)... overlaying those 1000's of images recorded through the ages, constantly updated.

Jan, this is not exactly that, but it might be of your interest:

There are public-taken pictures of buildings/towers being, well, built. On some of the posts you can see some cool comparison shots, like a pic from a place then a pic from the same place 1 year later, when you see a lot more buildings showing up.
