Two very different motivations for tagging, marking?

how'd ya know they're different motivations? I mean maybe they're the same? Boredom? Mark of identity [like a dog pissing in the garden]? The spatial context is probably quite significant and if you know why I'd like to know...

Only the persons who tagged/marked know their original motivations, so in that sense I should have included a question mark.

The pavement tag was on a path close to a high school, just outside a burger king. The toilet was in a mexican diner by a busy intersection.
Toilet - it could be boredom, or claiming a space, but its a relatively wierd/symbolic space to lay claim to.
